“Interrupted Infinity”, a double symbol for the City of New York: a landscaped interpretation of the iconic red ribbon – an emblem for all the lives tragically broken by the AIDS disease – as well as a metaphor for the hope of interrupting the never-ending progress of the epidemic.
The project seems to metaphorically apply a red ribbon to the City of New York: the former St. Vincent’s Hospital, historical epicenter of the epidemic in the city, becomes a place to live every day with conscience and hope.
The Memorial “takes the form of two interlocking ramps that negotiate the passage from basement to street level and upper platform” (New York Magazine).
The upper ramp winds through the park and creates a walk between the trees. The lower ramp leads to the Museum located underground.
