Like the sunflower from which it draws inspiration, “GIRASOLI” rotates and tilts, tracking the light of the sun and transforming its flow into renewable energy. Sensitive to the environment, the heliotropic sculpture performs both the rotation of Earth around its own axis and its revolution around the Sun.
The round solar face incorporates monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic cells with a custom lamination of high-transmittance white nano-film that is applied over the module during assembly, concealing any hint of the solar technology behind.
“GIRASOLI” is a venue for cultural events for both residents and visitors throughout the year. The main structure is a phototropic pavilion with an inclined and telescoping canopy above a slowly shifting venue.
The pavilion creates a large mobile arch representing a rotating portal to the park.
The whole structure requires only two support points — one is fixed in the center and the other follows the sun, leaving a large unobstructed and shaded space below for social activities.
